Amsterdam’s Artis Zoo is a family day out that everyone will enjoy. However during the summer, this zoo opens its doors for longer and invites special guests. For June, July and August, Artis Zoo will stay open until the sun sets. Every Saturday night will have an array of activities, guided tours and performances along with special events just for the children. Students from the Conservatory of Amsterdam will be providing the music, whilst being joined by other special guests.
During the Summernights Artis, there really is no better place for a picnic spot in the city, and at Artis Zoo you can order your picnic or barbecue in advance. Tickets only need to be bought if you are not an Artis member. Members can walk directly into the garden. Programmes have been set up for each daily event. Acts include, Jungle by Night, Wooden Saints and Kris Berry with Perquisite.The zoo will be open until around 11pm each evening.
The Artis Zoo was founded in 1838, and will many of the original buildings still standing, the tours are well worth embarking on. Why not do it by bike? Rental bikes are available throughout the day and evening. Artis is home to over 900 different species of animal and is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Along with the park, there is also an Amazonian rainforest, a tropical coral reef, historic Aquarium and an authentic Amsterdam canal home to its own aquatic life. There is also a planetarium, a butterfly Pavilion and an insectarium.
