Amsterdam fashion week this month was bathed in hot summer sunshine. And this was reflected in the fantastic atmosphere of the event.

On the fashion front we were treated to a wonderful catwalk programme that included the young talents of Jose Francisco Ramos and his bold geometric menswear and Claes Iversen, the toast of Dutch couture, with a collection that harked back to the roaring 20s.

The opening show of the event was SIS by Spijkers & Spijkers, an interesting display of colours and fabrics with a very feminine line.

One of the many highlights for me was the bi-annual G star Lichting prize for best up and coming Dutch fashion design student. As a platform for promoting new and exciting talent Lichting always delivers. And this addition was no exception to the rule. The winner Henriëtte Tilanus a student from the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts, produced the kind of artistic and individual thinking in her collection the Lichting is well known for.

But overall the theme of fashion week was optimistic. Now in its seventh year, Amsterdam fashion week is really staking its place among the fashion weeks of Europe
