  • Best Spots in Amsterdam to watch the World Cup

    It’s that time again that comes only every 4 years, where everyone shows their patriotic side and roots for their country to win in the World Cup. The Dutch are renowned for their fanaticism with football and with the first Dutch match coming up this Friday against Spain, instead of sitting and watching the game at home why not get out and enjoy the party atmosphere at some of Amsterdam’s World Cup events or local pubs and sports bars.

    538 Oranjeplein

    Dutch fans can gather at the Museumplein, where Radio 538 will be organizing a massive free football event. The festivities will start at 8pm with food, drinks and a broadcasting of the Netherlands vs Spain match. Admission is completely free.

    Strandoranje

    Strandzuid at Europaplein 22 will also be transforming into Strandoranje to celebrate the World Cup. Opening at 5pm Friday for the match, Strandoranje will be organizing events and offering packages including access to the venue, drinks, a huge 85”screen to watch the game and a great atmosphere.     Rio020

    Rio020 prides itself on being the biggest living room in the Netherlands. If public squares and tiny pubs overflowing with people aren’t your bag, then Rio020 is a great alternative.     Satellite Sports Cafe

    Satellite Sports café located in the Leidseplein is a great if you’re looking for somewhere that is geared towards sport.  They will no doubt be offering great coverage of all the world cup matches not just ones against the Netherlands. They’re open from 9am to 3am Sunday through Thursday and 4am Friday and Saturday. They also offer breakfast, lunch or dinner anytime of the day!

    Coco’s Outback

    Coco’s Outback is an Australian themed Pub also situated in the Leidseplein and will be showing all the World Cup matches live. Boasting 17 high-definition flat screens and comfy leather couches, Coco’s can fit a huge number of people, offering up food, cocktails and local and international beers for all your World Cup needs.

    Mercat Amsterdam

    You can watch the match between Netherlands and Spain at Mercat live on a big screen from 9pm. While you’re watching the game enjoy some fittingly Dutch and Spanish bites. Reservation are recommended.

    Amsterdam Roest

    Roest café and bar is a unique location on the Oostenburger Island and even has a beach area. A perfect spot to enjoy the weather and the World Cup. They’ll be displaying the match on a giant screen with a BBQ, special World Cup snacks and cold tap beer sold by the bottle or crate.

    Vondelpark 3

    Vondelpark 3 will be organizing a football festival around the Netherlands vs Spain match. The match will be broadcasting at 9pm on multiple large screens and if the weather permits you can watch the game from Vondelpark 3’s terrace. At 23.00 the afterparty begins through to 2am and can be attended by anyone in the possession of a ticket.     Westergasterras

    Westergasterras is one of the most well-known and most beautiful terraces in Amsterdam. Located on the grounds of the historic Westergasfabriek, it’ll be a great spot to catch the World Cup on the large sunny terrace, enjoying a beer and some of it delicious food from the restaurant.

    Hannekes Boom

    Hannekes Boom on the Dijksgracht 4, will be broadcasting all the matches of the World Cup from inside and outside the café from 9pm. A great patriotic atmosphere and lots of food and drinks are a sure thing at Hannekes Boom.
