May arrived to give us a sneak peek of what the incredible summer days of the next couple of months hold for us. Summer festivals are well known for hosting the best attractions to be enjoyed at this time of year and Buiten Westen, which will take place on Westerpark in July 19, is sure to keep the festival fun tradition going. It is not only a must-go for house and electronics music lovers, but it is also an event where performing arts, theatre, cinema, organic festival food and markets gather to provide an “unconstrained, bubbly, laid back, sexy atmosphere”, as described by one of the festival’s organisers and Djs, Ridzert Beetstra.
With tickets at €42.50 (buy online on their website while you still can), you are welcomed to enjoy all those attractions and more. According to Ridzert, the highlights of this year’s line-up are Ten Walls, Worakls, Psychemagik, Rone, Xosar and Motor City Drum Ensemble. The motto of the festival is “more dancing, less raving”, though you can make the most of the tunes from 12:00, when doors open, to 5:00 the next day. “At 23:00 we move indoors to some of the surrounding buildings, where we’ll go on until 5:00. Keep an eye on our Facebook page as we’ll be announcing the second part of the Buiten Westen experience soon”, says Ridzert.
This year the festival also welcomes new co-organisers to heat the event up even further: Cartel, Zeezout and NGHTDVSN will be joining regular attenders such as Next Monday’s Hangover, Pleinvrees and Paardenkracht. There are, therefore, many stages to bring you the best of house and electronic; and all that to keep the philosophy of the festival on strong: “We always aim to offer a forward-thinking musical experience and stay away from the usual big techno-legends that most other big festivals in the Netherlands are so keen on having on their poster”, he adds. Also, make sure to arrive to Westerpark early as there are numerous secret areas to discover: from photo-booths to caravans, cutting-edge decorations to a funfair, other attractions are available for when your knees and feet call the dancing off.
Still planning your schedule for unmissable events this summer? Then put on your dancing shoes and join this party.
