The 9th edition of the Camera Japan Festival is set to take place between October 2 and 12 in Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Since 2006, Camera Japan has attracted thousand of people interested in Japanese film and culture making it the largest such festival in the Benelux. From the 7th of October the Festival will take place in Melkweg Cinema and Kriterion in Amsterdam.
The film programme features about thirty titles spanning many different genres, namely samurai, romance, yakuza, comedy, sci-fi, animation and social commentary films. There will be new and classic films, shorts and features, fictional and documentary films on show. Most of the movies will screen for the first time at the festival while others have screened in Japan but nowhere else in the world.
Other aspects of Japanese culture will be on show at the festival too. There will be live dance and music performances, lectures on Japanese literature and manga architecture, legend and folklore storytelling, a yokai drawing workshops, a kids program me and art exhibitions. Enjoy a Japanese-inspired brunch before a film or experience a Japanese pub (called Izakaya) and sample the cuisine while having a sake or beer. The pop-up shop featuring many unique items will be another highlight along with the marketplace where there will be lots of stuff to take home with you. Shiatsu masseurs will also be on hand to treat patrons to a relaxing massage after a long day of experiencing Japanese culture.
