Last year more than one third of guests in hotels, guesthouses and other overnight accommodations came from abroad, predominantly from Europe. Over 12 million foreign guests booked a room in a Dutch accommodation. Most visitors travel from the very close Germany, but according to the Dutch Daily News UK and Belgium also had a large share in the total number of overnight stays. For tourists from Asia and America a visit to the Netherlands is often included in a European package holiday.
The North Sea resorts and the city of Amsterdam attract many tourists. About eight in ten foreign guests stay in hotels or guesthouses while the remainder prefers camping sites. There’s a difference between hotels and other types of accommodations: hotel guests, in fact, tend to stay only for a shorter period of time because of a city trip or event, while guests in other accommodations prefer recreational activities and relax.
