  • Goodbye 2012! Hello 2013!

Put the champagne on ice because the end of the year is near. Haven’t got any idea on how to say goodbye to 2012 yet? Here are a few tips to have a lot of fun celebrating “Oud en Nieuw”.

The biggest (and free!) event in Amsterdam is on the Oosterdok in the centre of town. With the VOC-ship Amsterdam, the Scheepvaartmuseum and the Science center NEMO on the background you’ll be able to enjoy a fabulous show with all kinds of performances and of course spectacular fireworks at midnight. (Note: no fireworks should be brought from home) On top of the Science Center Nemo you can also enjoy the view of the sky that is lit up by fireworks. The show starts at 11:15 pm and ends right after midnight.

A little smaller but a lot of fun as well are the parties that are happening on the public squares all over the city. Drop by the Nieuwmarkt (in Chinatown), the Rembrandtplein and the Leidseplein to make sure you don’t miss out on anything.

There are so many places to go. Here are just a few suggestions:

TIKTAK New Year’s Eve in the Heineken Music Hall promises a mix of house, electro, hip-hop, dub step and more. (10pm-6am: €55)

On the NDSM-wharf in Amsterdam Noord you can enjoy Dazzleville. More than fifty DJ’s bands, performers and live-acts can be seen on 7 small and big stages around a big campfire. (10pm-6am: early bird €42,50 normal €52,50)

A lot of retro-themed parties this year. You can find a ‘60s themed party at Paradiso (€25), We All Love ‘80s & ‘90s at Panama*’s (presale €40) or the Great Balls of Fire at the cultural center Felix Meritis (€ 65 – 69 presale, € 75 – 79 at the door)

The most bizarre party is named Freaqshow and can be found in the Ziggo Dome. Hardstyle lovers and night owls are combined with terrifying live shows. (8pm-7am: €60)

The Melkweg building turns into the place to be where you can enjoy a mix of dub step, grime and garage together with hip-hop and R&B in the Oude Zaal. A large living room party is held in the Theater and you’ll be able to enjoy short films on the big screen in the Cinema. (10pm-late: early bird €25, standard €35)

If you like burlesque you can go to ‘La Grand Ouverture du Club de Nuit Absurdiste de Mademoiselle Serpentum’. A whole new kind of party at the opening of this absurdistic Burlesque Night Club. You need to dress up as an archetype or your alter ego. Write a motivation and get a chance to purchase one of the tickets (€125) to this extraordinary event on a secret location in the centre of Amsterdam.

Or take part in this yearly pubcrawl that is guaranteed good times and fun!
