  • Holland through to the last 16

    Holland came from being 2-1 down to beat Australia 3-2 in an action packed Group B showdown on Wednesday.
    Arjen Robben put Holland in front in Porto Alegre with a goal on 20 minutes, however within 60 seconds, Tim Cahill equalised with an impressive left-footed volley. Cahill followed his impressive skills with a late challenge on Bruno Martins Indi, resulting in the Australian being suspended for the final group game against Spain. Martins Indi was stretchered off with an ankle injury, however no information has been released.

    The Dutch are through to the last 16, after Spain lost 2-0 to Chile at the Maracana. Robin van Persie also earned himself a suspension to rule him out of the contest with Chile after catching Matthew Spiranovic with his arm. Referee, Djamel Haimoudi awarded a penalty. Mile Jedinak stepped up to take, in the 54th minute, however it was soon cancelled out by Van Persie’s impressive strike into the roof of the net in the 58th minute. Holland substitute, Memphis Depay put them in front 10 minutes later with a 25-year super shot.Nigel De Jong attempted to find a fourth, however his shot was blocked. The final quarter of the game was a thrilling end to end contest. Australia had opportunities but couldn’t find an equaliser.

    Holland face Chile on Monday 23rd June, whilst Australia face Spain.
