Have you ever wished your eyes were cameras, able to snap up anything you see throughout the course of the day and print out the exact image in fine detail. Ever found yourself people watching and had a rare moment that only you saw and enjoyed. Or ever had a brief moment of beauty due to the lighting mother nature chose to provide at that moment.
If so, Concept store Charlie + Mary are showcasing the unique talent of local photographer Laila Cohen in an exhibition entitled “Passant” during this years fashion week here in Amsterdam. Laila is a young artist with an eye for something different and began her studies at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague doing documentary photography but made the change to study fashion photography. During her studies she spent time in new york interning at Annie Leibovtz and Ryan McGinley.
Born and bred in Amsterdam and coming from an artistic family Lalia has found her niche in her photography and mainly likes to shoot personalities, lifestyle and fashion.
She adopts an invisible ‘voyeuristic’ approach to her subjects and this gives you a feeling of first hand insight into the photographs and also offers a diverse and unique series of images to admire. This style is from the observers point of view and makes you feel as if your eyes are cameras, if only for a brief moment, beautiful.
Since 2009 Amsterdam based duo, Charlie and Mary, have been pioneering the field of ethical fashion and only select the newest and most innovative, sustainable and ethical fashion labels for men and women. Their concept store based in the Pijp area of Amsterdam is a hip place for young, upcoming artists and designers. Its this affiliation with talented artists and designers which has made this unique exhibition possible this year and a must see for anyone with an eye for art or life in general.
Life is art and Laila has made hers come to life in a way that you will not only appreciate but admire and think about for much time.
Dont miss this unique exhibition in a setting that will only emphasize its beauty.
