Surprisingly, International Museum Day takes place in early May and even though Amsterdam celebrates it’s very own night at the museum way after the summer (November first this year), you can rest assured; this is the Grand Poobah of cultural fests – it’s the way to start wintery times and get your culture on.
One night a year, a total of 50 museums open their doors organising special events, workshops, concerts, special tours and performances. Museumnacht not only opens up the entire evening to exhibit unique happenings, but permanent collections and temporary exhibition are also on the evening menu – a show for all tastes and palates.
The 15th edition of the Museumnacht promises to be bigger than ever. With an ambitious programme, the city is now even more emphatic at the centre of the arts. Participating museums and institutions will open doors from 19:00 to 02:00 and with 250+ activities, 10 museum routes, free transport and massive discounts for the six after parties, you will not want to miss this epic night. If you get yourself a ticket, moreover, you will get an extra day to visit most museums for free afterwards.
Art lovers and museum aficionados have always been supportive of this event. With sold-out editions since its beginnings you better fetch your entrance ticket soon before you miss out. Also, located all over the city and in the most gorgeous museums, part of the charm of this festival is the city that hosts it. Amsterdam hereby underlines its ambition to present art at a whole new level and captivate more than 30,000 visitors with its exceptional agenda and picturesque locations.
Noteworthy, is the young soul that beholds Museumnacht. N8, the foundation behind it, was created in 2003 with a staff of cultural geeks not older than 27 – staff changes every three years opening up spaces for young, creative and up-and-coming cultural talent to be put into good use. N8, with its vibrant and youthful spirit, showcases Amsterdam as the birth of the cool when it comes to mixing a good party and a great piece of art.
