If you are a party animal and that is exactly the way you want your New Year to start, then Welcome in Amsterdam! Given that you are planning to spend your night in a capital known for its wickedness and legalized vices, it is not a surprise that you have been promised the craziest night of your life.
But Amsterdam is not only recommended for the hardcore party animals! This city is a place that will compel each and every individual person to join the natives and flow with merry wave, whether you are young or young at heart, have children or you are single, love to eat or drink…or both!
The legendary Dutch party capital offers, literally, something for everyone. What you MUST-DO this evening if you are in Amsterdam is:
1. Visit at least one of the many New Year’s Eve parties in Amsterdam
All of the clubs in the capital are trying to give variety in music, atmosphere and price. One of the lowest priced parties (€30) is happening in Studio 80 on Rembrandtplein 70. For all of the Jazz lovers the Sugar Factory on Lijnbaansgracht 238 is going to play Wicked Jazz Sounds from 00:15am ‘till 06:00am on the first day of the new year. If, on the other hand, you love retro music from the 80’s and 90’s you can find it on Oostelijke Handelskade 4 in Panama, where for only €40 you will be able from 10:00pm – 04:00am to enjoy the show of the biggest retro hits. Then again, if you want to spend the biggest night filled with great crowd, awesome DJ’s and modern music, then you should book a ticket for the Heineken Music Hall’s “Tik Tak NYE” party. This party is promising two areas with impressive 8 hours line-up for €60. At last but not least, for all of the low budget party animals or you just love all-in-one for free, you can find it on Korte LeidseDwarsstraat in the Club Hartje for some House, Top 40, Dance and much more.
2. Eat oliebollen and apple turnovers with the Amsterdam natives
Get into the NYE spirit like the native Dutch and stop at the stands that you can find all over the city. Choose your favorite flavor of the delicious doughnuts coated with sugar, but be sure you try the tasty apple fritters, too.
3. Enjoy the fireworks
All throughout the city, fireworks light up the streets and canals as Dutch locals and travelers usher in the New Year. The Oosterdok is the official place for celebration in the city, while a lot of families come early to the Amsterdam New Year’s Countdown at the Museumplein for marvelous view on the firework show. For even more unique experience I recommend you the Magere Brug, since the Amsterdam’s firework is an event that you do not want to miss.
And as the old year leaves, Dutch people have a special way to say goodbye to it. There is an old tradition in the Netherlands where the whole Dutch community participates in. At Dazzleville they all come together to burn a wooden effigy to celebrate and welcome the New Year, but also bid goodbye to the last one.
NYE Tip: If you are sure that you are going to spend your NYE in Amsterdam, be sure you book on time. In order to get the lowest price for accommodation and the best place for partying, early booking is recommended.
Amsterdo wishes you a splendid New Year’s Eve in our city!
