  • Opening of a new and 4000m² multifunctional venue space: IJVenues!

The IJVenues is a huge and very ambitious project to offer the widest space possible for all types of events, conferences and musical performances, all with a gorgeous view on the IJ river.

Opening its doors in the beautiful city of Amsterdam, IJVenues aims to provide inspiration in a unique location through its 4000m² of conference space, 20 breaking rooms and the possibility to host up to 5000 participants. Focused on providing a space to businesses but also the arts, the project was born out of the collaboration of four partners: het Bimhuis, Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam, Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA) and het Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ.

The first venue of its kind to possess its own hotel, the idea is to provide a meeting area a short 5min walk from the city center that could be easily secured for the safety of its participants – something that has already been achieved in several occasions, including the coronation of Dutch Prince Willem Alexander earlier in 2013.

Located on the man-made island where once stood the dockings for the commerce in spices and salt, the area underwent significant changes in the early 2000s, when the city of Amsterdam decided to re-develop the site to include cultural and touristic destinations as well as office spaces.

The result today is the IJVenues: a unique collaboration bringing together a huge network in the cultural, hospitality and music worlds that aims to provide its services not only to the Dutch market but also, and maybe more importantly, internationally. “With the countless possibilities available within our 4000m², we are confident that we can accommodate the needs of our clients – no matter what they are looking for”, says Director of Sales&Marketing Viona Terleth, “we want to position ourselves on the international market so that everyone can benefit from this unique location”.

The opening ceremony on the 4th of November included a boat trip on the canals around the venue and a visit by segway with its representatives, followed by a presentation gathering the leading actors in the fields of culture, music and events.
