Amsterdam has a merited reputation of a city with a very tolerant cultural landscape – not only in terms of background, nationality, skin colour or race, but also for sexual preferences and choices. The LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community has a strong foundation in the city. The first legal gay and lesbian nuptials were officiated there, not to mention the first monument of gay pride. The anti-discrimination laws applied in all of the Netherlands are very much a result of the efforts made in Amsterdam – parades, protests and processions.
Keeping in mind all these facts it comes as no surprise that festivals and other events dedicated to the gay and lesbian community and the freedom of choice are constantly held in Amsterdam.
Soon everybody interested will have the opportunity to join one of these events – the Pink Film Days festival is going to be held from the 14th to the 23th of March 2013.
It is an opportunity for people to see some really high-quality cinema – a diverse and vast selection of movies. There are 112 screenings, which makes this year’s event the largest in the history of the festival. To make things even more interesting and diverse – the projections come from 32 different countries!
Pink Film Days also has the purpose to show everybody there the latest news and achievements connected with the gay and lesbian society – screenings never seen in the Netherlands will be presented for the guests of this spectacular event.
All of the needed details can be found in the program – the language of each screening is specified in it. Most of the movies will be in English, or with English subtitles but to avoid any misunderstandings it is good to check before you go.
The affairs will be followed by commentators and other staff between particular movies, who will be caring for the high spirits of the event as well as for giving information and entertaining the public.
