    Since 1870

What began as a small haberdashery more than 140 years ago has since broadened into a department store that has found an audience beyond the Netherlands. De Bijenkorf is now one of the most visited shops in Netherlands, and its history provides constant inspiration for fashion and design.

The Dam location, a 21,000-square-metre building designed by architect J.A. van Straaten, remains one of the most recognizable landmarks in the historic city center. Featured as a backdrop in a number of books and films set in Amsterdam, the building is an architectural triumph inside and out.

    Products & services

All de Bijenkorf stores offer a wide range of products and services including many exclusive brands on the Dutch market. Products on offer include clothing for women, men, children and infants, electronics, jewellery, toys, food and drink, health and beauty items, packaged gifts, stationery, housewares, furniture, and much more.

In addition, the ground floor of the Amsterdam store hosts shop-in-shops of high end fashion brands such as Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Burberry, Gucci, Fendi, Salvatore Ferragamo and Mulberry. In addition, this floor has a 1.750 m2 open accessory department with collections of premium brands and private label products.

    Events

The surprising and breathtaking decorations in de Bijenkorf’s unique shop windows make them real attractions. Live theatre, dance and music performances can be seen on a regular basis. Each year around 300 events take place such as the launch of de Dutch VOGUE magazine. Since 2008 de Bijenkorf kicks off its Christmas season with a spectacular lighting event called Turn On The Lights during which the mayor of Amsterdam turns on the façade lighting of the Amsterdam store.

According to de Bijenkorf Sales Director, Edo Beukema, “The store offers something for everyone, from shoes to men’s fashion. Think of what will come from the more than 300 events that are held annually!”

    Dutch Design at its best

The characteristic building of the Amsterdam store has served as a backdrop in various films and books that are set in our capital. The centrally located Lichthal (Light Hall) in de Bijenkorf is an example of architectural ingenuity. The hall owes its name to its special lighting and its large light dome that offers a beautiful setting for the women’s fashion collections.

According to Edo Beukema, “It is the diverse, constantly changing portfolio of products that has always marked de Bijenkorf out from its contemporaries!”

    International cuisine de Bijenkorf Kitchen

The beautifully designed restaurant de Bijenkorf Kitchen offers an international menu with dishes from every corner of the globe. At eight free-standing cookers, the most delicious dishes are prepared à la minute: from Japanese and Italian food to classic pastry and fresh juices. In the summer, you might enjoy them on the lovely roof terrace overlooking the center of Amsterdam.

De Bijenkorf is located in an historical building at Dam Square in the center of Amsterdam.
